That is right, it is baseball time again. That means long, hot days at the ball park. Patrick has 'graduated' from the 9-12 year old Little League division to the 13-15 year old Pony League.
It's funny how time changes things. I remember the boys from last year and their parents hating Patrick's team, the Yankees. Now the boys are playing on the same team. The parents are cheering for the boys they used to be against.
It's funny rubbing shoulder to shoulder with the parent who told me to "get by drunk ass back in the dug out and shut up!" This was last year when I was coaching Patrick's 9-12 year old team and our sponsor was Tommy's. I guess since Tommy's name was on the chest of my shirt, that meant I sat on one of his bar stools too. Funny how ignorant some parents are, isn't it?
Sometimes I wish I could go back and play in the pee wee and little league again...but with this Pony League team, it is a different world.
Being on the outside of the fence, rather than in the coaching position makes it nice to just go to the games, enjoy them, and come home.
Sadly, we have went from four teams down to only one. Luckily, we got into a league in Madison, but we have to travel to Madison, Vevay, New Washington and Columbus two to three times a week. With gas over $4 bucks a gallon, it might get expensive.
We had our first game last Saturday at Madison. It wasn't pretty, but for our first game with this team, it wasn't too bad. We play Thursday at New Washington, and I'm excited to see our improvement. (hopefully)
Chris Lanning, son of Linda Schill-Lanning-Luedeman, and David Luedeman, son of Charlene Gillaspy-Luedeman-Goebel, are the coaches. Again, I love driving to the game, then just coming home. Not having to worry about a line-up, the schedule, umpires, etc. I really do not miss those days!
