Just 14 miles north of our small town of Crothersville there was some flooding in the city of Seymour and further north the city of Columbus. To the northwest of us the town of Medora was also flooded.
After the terrible flooding in the area, Tony Stewart, hometown Columbus Indiana, said he would donate the portion of his winnings from the Michigan NASCAR race to the American Red Cross. The total winnings for finishing fifth ws $137,000. Tony's share was $55,000, which he donated as promised.
What a nice gesture! Thanks Tony.
Last week, my husband, who does store maintenance for the Jay-C Foods stores, told me a story that just totally pissed me off.
He was in Seymour working when he over-heard an elderly man describing the water damage he had to his property in Medora. Evidently, this man had a few inches of water under his house. He was laughing as he told the story of how he turned in damage to his home when there wasn't any. How the Red Cross was helping him because of his water damage. This guy was purchasing a small amount of food items because the Red Cross would feed him three times a day and it didn't cost him anything and why should he spend his money?
It makes me angry when there are people who need help, won't ask because of their pride, but then the people that flat out lie for the free handout.
